The Institute for occupational safety and health has developed a web application that can be used to determine incentives to defeat safeguards. The result is intended to help identify measures that lead to a reduction in the defeating of safeguards and subsequent accidents.
The MaSeM web application uses an assessment method that allows manufacturers and operators of machines and plants to determine the incentive to defeat safeguards and enables automatic documentation. The web application gets its name from the German phrase “Manipulationsanreiz von Schutzeinrichtungen an Maschinen” “, which, translated into English, means “the incentive to defeat safeguards on machines”.
The assessment method was developed in the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health of the German Social Accident Insurance (IFA) and incorporated into the standard DIN EN ISO 14119. It assists manufacturers and users during the design or selection of user-friendly machines.
Alternatively, the assessment matrix for individual protective devices implemented in the web application can also be used in the form of an Excel sheet (see section Practical Help – Determining the incentive for defeating)
In contrast to the method used in the Excel sheet, the web application enables the creation of machines with multiple safeguards. After the assessment has been carried out, the results can be exported to an automatically generated report containing all stored data for documentation purposes.
