Determining the incentive for defeating
Should defeating a safeguard yield an advantage for operating personnel as they are performing a task – for example by facilitating the work – it represents an incentive for the operating personnel to do so. Manufacturers and users must therefore determine the incentives for the defeating of safeguards in their respective hazard and risk assessments.
The Institute for Occupational Safety and Health of the DGUV (IFA) has developed guidance in the form of a simple procedure that can be used to identify and classify incentives to defeat safeguards on machinery. The procedure can be carried out by means of an Excel sheet (with instructions).
The procedure is also available in the form of a web app at masem.ifa.dguv.de
