A recent survey of the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health shows that supervisors often tolerate the defeating of safeguards. The result is a significantly increased number of defeated safeguards and accidents.
Between 2020 and 2022, the Institute for Occupational Safety and Health conducted a survey on the current incidence of defeating. According to the study, across all industries safeguards are defeated on around a quarter of all machines. The results of the survey also allow the conclusion that the defeating of safeguards is tolerated by superiors more often than assumed. The survey results show a statistically significant correlation between toleration by superiors on the one hand and the frequency of defeating and the resulting accidents at work on the other.
